This Can't Be True!

Hi Everyone,

Lately it seems that everywhere I read, there are more and more examples of a complete lack of common sense ideas that boggles my mind. Common sense seems to be a dirty phrase more often than not. So it was when I read a recent article that fits the bill of no common sense what-so-ever.

This true story is taking place in Albany, NY. There is a Code Council that is in the process of updating New York's Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code. For decades now, all gas stations have been required to have fire-suppression systems; which is a great common sense requirement. But last January, a sub-committee recommended removing that requirement. I personally would like to meet the members of this committee/council to see what real morons look like. The fire-suppression systems have proven time and time again that when there is an accident at a gas station that involves a fire, these systems are the first line of defense in helping to stop or to severely limit a small fire that may otherwise turn into a catastrophe.

The article did not make it clear if and when the full Code Council plans on taking up this idiotic proposal. The next meeting is on 12/11/13. Of course, New York's largest firefighters association raised concerns and is against not requiring the fire-suppression systems. In addition, Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, D-Utica is also urging the Code Council to keep the mandate. My question is what in the world is this Council thinking? Reversing this mandate is one of the most stupidest things that I have heard about in a long time. What good can come from not having this mandate? Absolutely nothing at all!!!

Hopefully common sense will prevail and the fire-suppression systems will remain a mandate for all gas stations in New York State. Enough said!

Til next week.

Peter
