Hi Everyone:
Is it just me or are other people noticing that drivers on highways are getting worse and worse with each passing year? Just yesterday I was traveling on an interstate highway in New York and Connecticut, when I witnessed an exorbitant amount of people who do not use common sense while driving.
My first issue is with all the drivers, and there sure seems to be a lot of them, who do not signal prior to changing lanes. Even if there is tons of room to change lanes, it just makes common sense to signal first to let everyone who can see you, now know what your intentions are. Now when there isn't a whole lot of room to cut into the next lane, it is absolutely asinine to cut in , which shouldn't be done in the first place or at least signaling first. I mean it is so very dangerous to change lanes without using the dumb-guy blinkers.
The next issue that I witnessed yesterday occurred with at least 3 drivers. So there you are driving along at the speed limit, going with the flow, when someone either in front of you or to the side of you applies their brakes for no apparent reason. This actually occurred going up a hill as well as going down a hill. Again there is no common sense in putting on your brakes when not necessary. Around here, just that one car doing that can cause the start of slow down zone.
The last issue that I witnessed yesterday, as well as every day that I drive on any road, anywhere, are people talking on their cell phones as well as texting while driving. Something can happen so fast, when you are driving at highway speeds, to make you lose control and get into an accident. Why take the chance of having your attention diverted? As a side note, I see all ages using their cell phones. Obviously common sense is not being used. As I said in a previous blog, there should be some kind of common sense class that all people should have to take and pass, prior to getting their license. How many times have we each seen some driver that does something really stupid? I believe that in a perfect world, if each and every driver used common sense to the max while driving, there would be hardly any accidents, except mechanical failures.
Driving and common sense go hand in hand.
Til next week.
