Hi Everyone,
It has been a long time since I awarded my last Common Sense Award. CSA # 7 was awarded way back on 10/20/13. As you all are very much aware, it isn't often that I give kudos to politicians. I seldom have nice things to say about politicians; since they seldom have or use any common sense what so ever. CSA # 8 is then a bit unorthodox since it also does not go to a single person, but rather a group of people who happen to be........gulp.......politicians.
CSA # 8 goes to all of the Clarkstown, New York politicians that approved the 2009 idea of building a large-scale solar field on a closed down, 100 acre landfill. Some of the facts:
1) Began operating on 12/18/14.
2) Public - Private partnership with no cost to the taxpayer.
3) Occupies 13 acres.
4) Has 2.364 megawatt capacity, which will produce more than 2.9 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
5) Will offset 2,030 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the environment annually.
6) Will save taxpayers up to $4 million in electricity costs from town buildings.
What's not to like about this? And go figure that politicians got together and voted for something for the good of the people they represent. So I give my kudos and CSA # 8 to the Clarkstown politicians.
Til next week.
Peter
